Reception & Pre-Prep

Our early years learning environment is founded on care and creativity

However, there is nothing quite like seeing it for yourself. Do please register an interest and we will arrange a visit or taster session for your family. We would love to welcome you to our school.

As with our Prep School, small class sizes are key, ensuring the learning journey can be tailored wherever possible to each child’s needs.

Our dedicated and experienced team of teachers and support staff deliver a bespoke, personalised approach. Although firmly focused on academic progression, education is centred on the importance of relationships, ensuring that children feel secure, supported, and valued.

Each day presents opportunities to make the most of our on-site facilities, including our woodland, garden, and heated swimming pool. In the summer months (April to October), our Forest School lessons move to the beach, where we investigate the rock pools and wildlife.

Beeston children are taught through a topic-based creative curriculum.

This allows children to explore geography, history, and science organically: learning through doing.

Pre-Pre reading

In Reception, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Children have a daily focus on literacy and numeracy. Whether exploring new concepts independently or collaboratively with their friends, our small classes mean that children get an outstanding level of attention to support their development.

We understand the importance of the transition between Reception and Year 1, and then Year 1 to Year 2 (and then into the Prep School). Children start their school year in the Reception classroom. They then move to our Year 1 break-out room to focus on the Key Stage 1 curriculum. The Year 2 classroom is situated in the heart of the Prep School, to further aid the transition to those next steps.

All Pre-Prep year groups have weekly lessons in Music, Art, French, PE, and Games.

These are taught by specialist teachers across the school, ensuring Beeston children experience not only a variety of subjects, but, vitally, of teaching styles, too.

Each child has an online learning journal – hosted by Tapestry – through which parents receive daily pictures and updates about the school day.

Our parents have found our up-to-date, daily use of Tapestry an invaluable resource to spark conversations about the day and reflect on learning. (Grandparents and other relatives can also be given log-ins on request.)
